History of Valley Side Farm Cheese
In 1869, a Norwegian immigrant named Gunder Gunderson and his wife, Ingeborg, sailed from Oslo, Norway over the Atlantic Ocean to the United States of America. In 1873, Gunder homesteaded in Section 27 Lyons Township. Gunder and Ingeborg had eight children.
Their son Mathias married Anne and they had six children. Mathias and Anne’s son, Ole, married Magda. Ole and Magda’s lineage continues today with my husband being the 6th generation and my children being the 7th. Ole’s brother Magnus lived on the farm where we continue the family traditions with farming as our main occupation, and now more recently Artisan cheese making.
